Legendary film star Paul Newman, whose brilliant blue eyes, good looks and talent made him one of Hollywood's top actors over six decades has died after a long battle with cancer.
The 83-year-old screen legend passed away peacefully at home yesterday, spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic said.
Famed for his philanthropy as well as his acting, Newman was married to Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward for more than 50 years.

As well as his acting he had successful side careers as an auto racing driver and created a line of food products, Newman's Own, that bore his name and face on their labels.
The Newman's Own Foundation, took profits from that company and sponsored numerous charitable organisations.
He also founded his Hole in the Wall Camps, which provided fun summer breaks for children around the world suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

He is survived by wife Joanne, whom he married in 1958, and their three daughters. The couple had celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in January this year.
He also has two daughters from his first marriage to Jackie Witte.
No other details were available, but the actor had earlier spoken of his wish to die at home surrounded by his family.
Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times and won an Oscar in 1987 for his role in the Color Of Money.
'Paul's Newman's craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all,' Robert Forrester, vice-chairman of the Newman's Own Foundation, said in a statement.

He also received two honorary Oscars and retired from acting in 2006 after a 50-year career that included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1971), The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963) and Cool Hand Luke (1967).
He sometimes teamed with wife, Joanne, also an Oscar winner for the 1957 film Three Faces of Eve.
His death comes a month after he was pictured being pushed from a New York cancer hospital in a wheelchair looking thin and frail.
The actor and Joanne, pictured on their wedding day in 1958, have three daughters.
He was pictured leaving the Weill Cornell Medical Centre in New York, which specialises in cancer treatment.
Newman, 83, had only weeks to live and had returned home to be with his wife and family.
In an earlier interview a family friend said that the star – who co-owns a motor racing team and has his own salad dressing brand – had spent the past few weeks getting his affairs in order.
The movie star was born in a Cleveland suburb on Jan. 26, 1925, and was a Navy radio man in the Pacific during World War Two.
The screen legend had a passion for fast cars as well as acting
He went to Kenyon College in Ohio on a football scholarship but took up acting after being cut from the team because of a barroom brawl.
After his father's death, Newman helped run the family sporting goods store before heading to the Yale Drama School.
He ended up in New York, finding bit parts in TV and a Broadway role in Picnic in 1953.
His first major movie role was portraying boxer Rocky Graziano in Somebody Up There Likes Me.
